Saving...
landed at H-78, the 344th group field, Johnny wanted me to stay there tonight and said he was sure I wouldn't have any trouble getting a ride to Paris tomorrow. However, I'd seen Maj. Jim Brady a minute at the Nice airport (on his way to Cannes) and he had said to come on to Namur, so I did. There is just the field at Florennes, no town, while this is headquarters. We landed about seven miles from town, the pilot had radioed for a truck, so I came in with the headquarters officers. One of them Capt. Mittisell, was especially nice to me. He took me to their mess hall hotel to eat, carried my suitcase (with handle off) over across the street to this hotel, phoned the billeting office & the commanding colonel to get me a room here and so here I am, with a turquoise bath room, a lovely front room, a big soft bed and a down puff. As I was eating, our pilot who is also operations officer said to call him in the morning & he'd see what he could do about Paris. He said some of the fellows probably needed flying time & would be glad to take me over. What a life!
