Paris, France July 31, 1945 Dear Mother, Well, I'm settled for at least a day now. Then no telling where you'll hear from me. Interesting, isn't it? I had a lovely nights' sleep in my big soft bed in Namur last night. I got up about 7 and went to the hotel across the street where Capt. Mittisell had taken me to dinner and told me to get breakfast. It was a sort of inner sanctum for 9th Air Force headquarters (called Bombay) officers so it was extra nice. I met Capt. Johnson (yesterday's pilot & operations officer) and a major and ate with them. He told me to wait a half hour and then phone him when he'd had time to look over the flights. They kept kidding me about how was I going to get to Paris and how nice it would be to stay in Namur several days. I wasn't too worried. I called him at 8:15 and he said he had a C-47 going at 10 and the truck would stop at my hotel to pick me up. It did and we did & after
