behind the quarters to a nice woods. Monday Mary Flick, (RC) Jessie McCafferty (one of the nurses) & I went in to London about mid-afternoon. We went to the PX & then I went to Euston station to see about the prospects of a sleeper to Glasgow. They were very poor. I ran into Jessie at 10 Charles Street club & we went out & had fish & chips in a district called Shepherd's Mart. She took me to the train about 8:30. Still no sleepers and people 5 deep waiting on the platforms to sit up. I said I wasn't going that way, so we walked along another platform where they were already blowing their whistles for the train to start. I asked about a berth, the conductor hustled me in, Jessie tossed me my coat, & I was off. I was travelling on 1st class warrant of course, so by paying about a pound I had this lovely private room, soft bed, air conditioning, hot & cold water, everything. It wasn't quite mine, but I went to bed & didn't wake up till they brought me tea about 6:30. We got in
