it was before the Americans tuched it So what do they do but put Engineer officers over us both Non Com. and Com. and set us to work filling the trenches and fixing the roads. and there has been considerable ill feeling between the Infantry and Engineers and we don't exactly relish the Idea to having to work under them altho we dident kill ourselves with work. but yesterday it snowed all day and wasent fit for a dog to be out. I happened to be on guard and dident have to go. but most of the men did and about eleven oclock they thought it was too bad for the horses and mules to work so they took them in but kept
