Saving...
Jan. 10, 1946 Dear Mother, Just a note tonight to take the place of the phone call I'd have made if the strike hadn't been on. I'm back in Washington to clear & will be here about two seeks. Then I'm going to Panama! When they first suggested it I wasn't at all favorable, but the more I think of it the better I like it. I'm almost sure to have a club of my own with two or three staff assistants to help. It may be on an air field. Don says that & Hawaii are the two choice assignments in the army. I'm going to get my luggage tomorrow, sort out all the heavy things & send them home in a bed roll & then buy a few summery things so as to look nice. I got two playsuit & skirt outfits today that I love. I'll need another swimming suit, some silly shoes, etc. I can take 65 lbs with me & then they'll send the locker & duffle bag by ship. There are 4 of us going; we go by train to Miami & plane from then on. Write me at 930 H Street now. Love, Helen P.S. Had dinner & show with Betty.
