Saving...
January 26, 1946 Dear Mother, I'm all packed and have about a half hour before starting for the train. Since I talked with you last night I've seen Betty again. I picked her up at Murphy's at 11 and took her to lunch at a nice tea room. On the way to meet her I stopped at a light behind an army colonel & a navy officer. It was Lloyd & Raymond Lynch! [note in margin: from Waucoma, Iowa, my home town] We had a good visit. Lloyd is just back from Europe via China & Raymond has been in the Pacific. Raymond is on his way to South America shortly and will look me up in Panama if he can. They looked well. Betty gave me some Hershey bars to take with me. She had just had a new permanent, which looked nice. Did you get the money I sent with the tax blanks? I suppose you did if you got the blanks. I'm glad Dorothy & Charles have a place in Milwaukee. Yes, I've gotten the Iowans & have enjoyed them. I had lunch with Shirley
