Note my new APO, 829 Panama City, Panama January 29, 1946 Dear Mother, Well, here we are! We got up at 3 this morning, took a lovely big 4 motored C-54 at 5 o'clock AM and were landed in Panama by 10:20 AM. It takes 6 days by the fastest boat! Before it even got very light we flew over Cuba, all dark with shiny silver rivers and the red dawn behind it. We flew high, about 9000 feet and so kept above the cloud formations and all roughness. We slept an hour or so and then played cribbage. Then we ate a big box lunch and by that time it was time to fasten our safety belts & land. As we circled down it got hotter & hotter & we found ourselves plunk in the loveliest flowering shrubs & vines & palm trees. I should think the temperature is in the seventies. Two Red Cross men met us, the previous head down here & the one who came down a week ago to relieve him. They took us in a car to quarantine & customs, a mere formality & then to
