Panama City, built right along by Albrook Field, where we landed. It is in the Republic of Panama. They left us at the International Hotel to freshen up & look at shops & spend the night, to start out fresh tomorrow morning. We are on the 6th floor in a corner room with tile shower & venetian blinds. We had showers, discarded our winter uniforms for Palm Beach suits, & leg make up instead of stockings. As we were about to go down to eat the girl phoned whose place I'm taking & asked us to go to dinner with her, the girl who will be my staff assistant & another girl (all Red Cross) who had known Helen Hutt in high school. So we went down to the hotel lunch room about 2 and had a tuna sandwich, iced tea & a huge slice of iced papaya. Then we went out window shopping. The darned place looks like a movie set. The houses have porches on all floors (usually 2 or 3) They are painted the most unusual colors. One we see from our window is yellow with dark green "gingerbread" another is bright blue with white. The roofs are all rusty tin. The shops are open fronted. They have lots of yard goods, alligator bags &
