Saving...
Wednesday night Mar. 14 - 45 Dear Helen - Yesterday No 85 written Mar 6th arrived and today 83 written Feb 22 came - Crazy isn't it. It was nice to get pictures again. You have a beautiful do on your hair. Jay looks like the kind of person I'd like - too bad she left you - do you have another roommate? Forty miles isn't so far if you could get the same time off occasionally and meet by bicycle. Does the Olive Court doctor's family still live here in Iowa City - By the way speaking of doctors - and his knowing Ted reminds me that Nan phoned me today and said she had a message for me from her mother and that it was that the Gretemans are coming back here April 1st. Said Ted wrote the Hospital here that he didn't find the work in Calif what he wanted - I wonder where they'll live? They sold their house here. I yelled at the various methods of getting outside the butternut candy!! How handy to have a beauty parlor right in your own house - Is the operator an American girl? If she made you look as sweet as in this picnic picture She's OK. What does she charge? Is Ted, the cook married yet? I haven't heard from his girl here for a long time. Did Jay get her tonsils out before she left? Do keep away from London till those awful bombs quit. Seems as tho they couldn't keep coming over very much longer. I hope you got my V mail letter and have found Betty's brother. Geo Ritson - Maybe you two could gang up and fix Betty's birthday present for July 4th - You could furnish material & he could make her a rug or something - nice your boys were so busy when the inspection came - What did she say to you? I got a perfectly darling picture of Judy yesterday - taken on her 2nd birthday - Ruby thinks Louie may get a furlough soon - Seems too bad for him to miss so much of Judy's cuteness. Jay is Army and not R.C. isn't she? I take it Dora didn't get out to your hospital? Glad you could see her at any rate - what was she doing in tow - evidently she wasn't just visiting you - has she visited Maureen yet? I'll look for those plastic clothes pins for Jay next time I'm over town - I hope you fixed up a nice box for Maureen. Queer how all letters before & after those tax blank (ones?) have reached you - One I had written here & mailed at the P.O., then talked to Mr.Conden and bought an envelope right there and mailed the blanks - I'm not sure but it will be just as well to let it go and put the money out as interest till you get home - anyway I'll wait a while till I see what you say on the subject. Have you looked up Freddy's wife yet? Where is he now? A week's bicycle trip would be grand. Gretchen brought back "Anything Can Happen" today and I'll put it in your next box and you can leave it in your library there.
