Saving...
Sunday night. June 24 - 1945 Dear Helen - I have just finished writing Mrs. Brodtman again. Sat. I got a nice note from her and a perfectly lovely picture of Minster Lovell. The White Swan (or maybe it is a goose) is in the foreground and a nice little street goes on to the side of the picture - homey looking stone building - I have wished for some time I could send her something that I wouldn't have to pay duty on - Can't you suggest something I could send you & you could send to one of the girls to deliver to her? If I could just get a linen center for that crocheted edge I have I'd love to give it to her - any ideas? This has been a very satisfactory day - at 9:30 I was just starting out to get Helen Focht (Fran was in West Union with their car) when Betty appeared on the back porch. I took her along with me - We started picking berries (I had picked 4 qts earlier in the day - taken a qt to Kosens and hulled the rest for our noon short cake). Betty had brought her canvas chair up and was just going to watch us - I gave her an empty box & told her to pick herself a box full. She did, then wanted Eric to see the wonderful bed, so he came with another empty which he filled, then Ricky came & just picked & ate - we got 23 1/2 qts. After H & I washed the dishes, we took a box to the Allens and 2 boxes to the Schramms. They moved into their new home Monday and are well settled. I think it is the most beautiful home in Iowa City - the location is perfectly wonderful. Its on a big point of land surrounded with ravines and all wooded - something like the point
