Thur night - July 26th [1945] Dear Helen - Wrote you last night but today old June 29th came limping in looking pretty badly worn but welcome nonetheless - It had several nice Kodak pictures in it - you look nice - best looking one in the outfit. I got up early this morning and baked a 2 layer chocolate cake for Gretchen to pay for the bale of straw - waited till after the mail came, then picked the Sweet peas and took them over to Pardens and took Mae with me to deliver the cake - She was so thrilled to see the Harshbarger place - We looked it all over while Gretchen and her guest Mrs. Bonney were getting beets out of the pressure cooker and cutting the cake & getting out glasses of milk for all of us - I got a dozen eggs (double yoke ones), and a gal of milk for cottage cheese and saw the lovely tray she is painting pansies on for our Christmas. It is to have "Helen" in one end and "Bess" on the other - She said she meant to give it to us 2 years ago but didn't have it done.
