Saving...
Oct. 2, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Just moved over into the engineering shack to write my letter our lights were so bad I could scarcely see the paper let alone what I was trying to write. Kind of cool this evening a jacket feels good and it will be a find night to sleep. I've been going to bed pretty early the past couple of weeks when I didn't have to work late, doesn't seem much to do and we get up pretty early. Have had six letters from you the past two days ranging from the tenth to the twentieth so I'm catching up on the back ones. Sorry to hear the car is laid up, hope the repairs are there & it's fixed up by now. That's one way to get some gas ahead tho and I expect the trees have turned and are pretty by now. I was awfully sorry to hear of Uncle Jesse's death, I shall miss his visits and some of the big stories he used to tell about Indiana and 'the big flat world.' He was a fine old man and left lots of friends around his home town which speaks about as highly for a mans life as anything could. Believe this is your wedding anniversary day, hope the day was sunny and bright as the one was in Callender quite a few years ago. Also reckon Carrol Morris is a year older for I've often heard it was his birthday & kept his folks from attending your wedding. Wonder if it has frosted hard enough back there to kill the corn yet. Havent had a letter
