Saving...
October 5, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: I think I'm about caught up on your back letters now. Ive received four the past two days which I was very glad to get. I should have more time now and will try very hard to write oftener. Have better lighting in our new house which helps a lot. We have a new stove which we built that is a honey, certainly heats up our house, even made a water coil in it and have a five gallon can which supplies us with hot water. Certainly works fine, should have it patented I think, dont believe there's another like it for sure. We had some grub this noon we cooked which really tasted good. The world series ball games are broadcast over here, Dads Cardinals didnt finish on top this year did they. I dont follow them so close or never have but I'll bet D. Smith has his ear in a radio someplace. They are in the evening here but I havent listened in so far. Im trying to write this lying on my bunk & it doesnt work so well but is comfortable and if you can read it, that's all that's necessary. I want to get some money orders to send home tomorrow if I can. Meant to send some money home like I did before one time but missed getting my form filled out, there is only one day per month we can do it and as it was raining pitchforks I didnt get to the orderly room. Heard from Mrs Finch today, a nice letter with news of Brad & Betty & their families. Must hurry up and answer Brads letter which you forwarded to me. The inevitable just happened I dozed off to sleep, dont know how long I napped but I cant seem to get awake so I'll sign off for tonight. P. S. Please send me some shelled pop corn have a stove to pop it now. Love Johnny
