Saving...
October 12, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom + Grandmother: Today has been warm and pleasant, took a helmet bath out in the sun and didn't even raise any goose pimples. Boy our little home made water heater surely does the work, we can heat our five gallon can full in about fifteen minutes. We've cooked on the thing several times and it tasted good. Hung all my blankets out to air this morning so I have a nice fresh bed tonight, seems as tho these wool blankets really fluff up when they are aired occaisionally. Our floor and walls are now getting pretty well dried out but they were rained on a lot before we moved in so needed a lot of drying. Got a letter from the church today but that was all. That is rather a nice thing to do, they come out once a month I think. The past week or so this country has greened up a lot. Maybe the winter season will be the nicest one. I haven't tried any olives over here but we bought a bundle of almonds today that are mighty good. When they are inside the shells they are clean and when they are shelled it's delicious. Hope we can get some more grapes but they are about gone. When the Italians laid up our walls they mixed the mortar with lime, sand and plain dirt. Evidently there was some wheat kernels in it for we have several sprouts growing out of our walls. Guess the heat from our Little Genius stone brought them out. Oct 13, Didn't get this finished last night so will add a little more this evening. It's cold and not so pleasant but was warm all day. Will be a good night to sleep and that's where I'll be before long
