Saving...
October 17, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom + Grandmother: This won't be much of a letter for I'm a bit sleepy and must clean up a bit before I go to bed. Had to work a little late this evening getting my ship ready for tomorrow, a ship on the ground isn't much good to anyone so all the fellows try and keep the in the air. It's been real nice and warm today, kind of indian summer after a bad spell. I talked to some of the Italians and they say they get little snow and not much freezing weather here. Had a nice letter from Adeline day before yesterday and she said they'd had word from Red recently. Guess he's seen a lot of action and got the Purple Heart and a couple of other medals. I was glad to hear he was still okay for I don't have his address and he hasn't written. We have a tailor set up in our service club now who alters clothes very cheaply. We have our O.D's now and [wast?] everyones need fixing over so he's really busy. Has a small boy about twelve helping him and the little fellow can really sew. The kids over here are about three or four years behind the kids at home in growth. A kid who looks ten is usually fourteen or so, guess it's too many cigarettes for they smoke from the time they are big enough to hang onto a butt. Will try and write again tomorrow Love Johnny
