Saving...
October 25, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Will try and write another short note this afternoon while I have the time and the daylight for are lights haven't been good the past few nights. One of the boys is making a window for our shack from some Plexiglas which we salvaged from a broken glass out of an airplane. Had Vienia Sausage for dinner again today that's another thing I don't ever want to see when I get home again. They are so compact and easy to transport & prepare we get a lot of them. I expect they are good but too much of anything kind of wears out. Our good meal is at night tho so we may have something good then. Our rat came back again I sprinkled some talcum powder around the place we thought he came in and sure enough he left white tracks along the top of our wall. Think we'll fix up a teeter board trap into a can of water and drown the bugger that is if he isn't too smart for us, which he probably is. Should get some mail tonight for I've skipped a couple of days there didn't seem to be much for anyone so there will be a big bunch one of these days soon. It will soon be Halloween but I don't think many of the fellows will get into any mischief. Don't guess here will be any spooks around either. Doesn't seem possible it can be so late in the fall but the calendar says so. Ever since I've been overseas I've crossed the days off from the little calendar George Woodard sent me, there's getting to be a lot of crossed off days. Hope he sends me another next year every Christmas since I've been in he has sent me one. Have nothing more to write - Love Johnny
