Saving...
October 31,1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Here it is the end of the month and pay day again, another month gone by fast as I look back. As these days go by tho I hope its getting close to the end of the war and there wont be so many more. The pay days are all right its the other twenty nine or thirty days I dont care about. Got a V-mail from you last night written the fourth of October but it was most welcome. I was glad to hear the stoker was fixed and working nicelyamused at what you said about the new university man and inclined to agree with you. In my estimation that place will never amount to much until it has a darn good shaking and some of the clinkers removed. Haven't seen any more mice the past couple of days perhaps they are discouraged by our persistant hunting or maybe they have eaten all they wanted and gone elsewhere for greener pastures. There have been some ingenious traps built from old fashioned figure four traps & tall cans of water with a teeter board to regular spring devises which would put the average manufacturer to shame. There may be a lot of well beaten paths to some of these doors for I tell you some of them are definitely superior. Wonder where Bob is now. I haven't heard from him in ages and don't know where to write to him. Wish he might have stayed in the states noticed a while ago in our paper that quite a number of dentists might be discharged and wish he might be one of them. Expect there are many older men who would come up for it first. This is pretty short but I must close and get to work. Love Johnny
