Saving...
November 1, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: This is a beautiful day here, the sun is almost as warm as summer and I just shed my wool undershirt it is so warm. The grass continues to get greener and looks more like a spring than fall but how long it will last I dunno. There are some little lambs running around with a flock of sheep which the Italian herd near our field, they are cute little buggers but seem only about half as big & peppy as the lambs at home. All the stock is undersized tho it seems. I've just played several games of solitaire don't know when I've played but didn't beat the old boy. The flies were shewing on us pretty bad so we just closed up the hut and filled it full of fly spray. Carried over ten gallons of fuel for our Little Genino while waiting for the air to clear & flies to die. It's still pretty thick but the flies are stupefied at least. They are finally getting our shower building underway, at least there has been a load of stone hauled for it. There is a lot of work before it can be started, there will need to be a big pit dug for drainage and some way for storing water provided for. I'm airing some of my junk today, the barracks bags absorb moisture from the floor and would mildew if given half a chance. The floor was rained on several times before we moved in and is just getting dried out. Should have washed out some clothes while the weather is good didn't have enough to send out to the laundry this week and my barracks bag wasn't back from last week. Still haven't had any mail maybe tonight I'll get some - Love Johnny
