Saving...
November 2, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: I'm writing this in solid comfort with my feet propped up on the stove and listening to the wind blow outside, it's not particularly cold but the fire gives one a cozy feeling. The water heater we have rings like a tea kettle and that's a pleasant sound too. Last night I got four letters from you, three V-mails written the sixteenth, seventeenth & nineteenth and an air mail written the twenty third. Tonight I got a newspaper sent the twenty third. You didn't mention having received my money orders in those letters and I am wondering if anything happened to them they were mailed about the eighth or nineth of last month. I was glad to hear from you and expect there will be some more back letters one of these days soon. Washed out some underwear & sox this afternoon wouldn't say they were snowy white but are wearable. When a fellow has to carry the water he isn't so lavish with the rinsings as when it runs from the faucet. My clothes pins I have carried with me so long are really giving good service don't think any one else in the outfit has any and I guard them jealously. Say I'll really have pop corn if it all comes then won't I, sure hope it does. I'm glad Raymies had a nice trip to Colorado and I hope Milan will get his furlough. I hope I can see Bob again now that's he's back in Italy if he will write to me perhaps I can figure out where he is. I should think you'd about know where I am if Bob wrote while he was in the states. No I haven't seen Don Hunt, the pass I had to go to Naples is the only one I've had. I'm sorry to hear the Rhudes are thinking strongly of moving. You'll miss them as neighbors. Guess I'll sign off for tonight - Love Johnny
