Saving...
November 3, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: As you can tell by the dates on these letters I'm getting them off more regularly. Haven't been as bush the past couple of weeks and have had some spare time. Our lights have improved greatly too which lets a fellow write at night. Just got a snap shot that was taken the other day just after I got done washing my hair. It is taken in front of our casa and is really candid camera don't you think. It is very good of Bill anyway, one of the fellows developed them himself in a dark room the squadron has fixed up. Will put in another of Bill & I with one of our hobbies for which I always had kind of a supressed desire it is diversion anyhow to making something that runs on the ground. I've tried & tried to think of something to write this evening but as usual there seems to be nothing to put down. One of the boys heard "Axis Sally" last night I haven't heard her for ages in fact I wondered if she was still on the air. It is a good program, very good music and as far as propaganda is concerned a failure for what it is intended. We hope to have a radio in our house soon for one of the fellows has sent for his. Just finished reading our paper (Stars & Stripes) it carries quite a lot of political editorials, both sides and quite a few of the fellows are arguing and discussing the probable winners. We'll soon know, and the news will come to us nearly as soon as you folks will get it which is certainly wonderful. No mail again today, maybe tomorrow, one of the guys from this squadron, just returned from a rest camp & reported having seen a fellow's name from West Union on the register but had forgotten who it was. Love Johnny.
