November 30, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: It really looked like Christmas around my bunk last night, got five packages three from you, the one mailed October eleventh the nuts and the one with all the licorice in it boy I'm really stacked up with things to eat. Also got a box from Valdi and one from Lizzie P. so you see I really fared well. I'll write to them soon but if you get this letter first you might tell them I received the boxes. It's gray and gloomy today I can scarcely see to write inside our shack but we don't run the little generator except at night so haven't any lights. We should get paid today but I haven't heard anything as to the time etc. so perhaps we won't get it, doesn't matter much anyhow for there is nothing to spend it for. I had a taste of Florida the other day one of the fellows comes from there and got a Christmas box with some guava jelly and canned guava's in it. Made me think of the winters we spent there. Some of the houses now being built are getting quite fancy, we only whitewashed our
