Saving...
July 5, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom & Grandmother: Got four letters today one from you, Milan Garner Hays and the Des Moines overseas edition from King, the one you sent will probably get here soon. I'll see about sending home the Stars & Stripes expect we can, dont know why not. Glad Grandma could come up for a stay and had a good trip. Seems like a long train ride: I thought Uncle Ralph was going to be in Madison for the fourth did he make it or not, hope they have a good season. Its been another scorcher of a day and it hasnt cooled off much yet tonight, perhaps it will soon and I can sleep. Would be good Iowa corn weather wish you had it to hurry the late planting along. My nose it still sun burned and peeling just put some Barbasol shaving cream on it that's supposed to be good for sunburn or according to the directions on the tube, everything including flat feet. Oh yes my friend Hays got married, some girl from Denver that he met last year. She's not with him now for she's just completing nurses training in Denver. Hope she's a nice gal for he's a prince of a fellow. Some of the fellows got passes today and flew to a nearby town, said it was very nice and had a good time. Think I'll try and go someday soon. Want to see as much pleasant of this country as possible, shouldnt want to live here but it does have some nice things. I'm writing this with a German made pen one of my friend bought today. Its a funny gadget has no point just kind of a glass stylus affair. Has a unique way of filling, just turn the top like an eversharp pencil and it fills up. Dont think it writes too well however. Much prefer a Parker or Scheaffer.
