Saving...
and the harbor is truly beautiful. If only the living conditions were better these towns wouldnt be so bad but as they are I dont see how the people exist in all the dirt. We rode every means of transportation imagineable from airplanes to funny little horse drawn carriages their street cars resemble the "Toonervill Trolley" they cram as many inside as can go and then they hang on the outside wherever there is a hand hold. Also rode a cable railway that runs up the side of a mountain it is rather like the cog wheel railway in San Francisco and is called the Funiculii. Coming in we flew over Mt. Vesuvius and could seen down into the crater and how the molten lava had recently run down the hillside. Had a letter from Mother a few days ago and she's lost weight till she only weighs about as much as Pop. Hope she isnt dieting too strenuously but she says she feels fine. Dad is fine too and keeps busy running out to the farm and at the yard I'm glad he has Harley [Sevsor?] at the yard for I think he's good help. It's bed time so I'll sign off. I put in for a soldiers ballot today so I can vote again hope it does me more good than the two times previously. Please try not to worry any more than you can help about Red. while he's got a tough job he'll come thru with flying colors. Love Johnny
