Saving...
August 16, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Another good hot day but it is quite comfortable tonight. Think Ill really be able to sleep for I've missed quite a bit the past few days. It's so hot a fellow cant nap daytimes. So old Buck got home again, good for him. Im about due for a furlough do you think I'll get it? I'd have to have quite a lot of travel time tho wouldnt I? Maybe I'll wait and take an extended one before long or do you think I should sign up for the army of occupation and spend a few additional years in the army. I am in the Air Force you thought I was and very near the spot you thought. I was quite amused at a letter I had from you the other day, that Bob was in England, it was only a few days since I had seen him, and wondered if I had visited someone else. August 17 That's as far as I got last evening but will try and add a bit more tonight. Have a couple of boxes rigged up in front of my tent which makes a fairly good desk. No mail again today but will get a slug of it some day soon. We are having a bingo party at our service club tonight if I get cleaned up soon enough I'll go up because my plane is already to go and I can take the evening off. Im always glad when I can get it ready before sundown for I hate this night work. There was a notice on our bulletin board for all Iowans to report tomorrow night for a group picture dont know what it is nor how many of us there will be but I'll go find out. The Red Cross representative in our group is from Des Moines so you may see us in the Register.
