Saving...
August 30, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: It's getting late and the light is bad so I expect this letter will be a short one too. Just finished putting down & fastening the sides of our tent for it looks rather like a storm. Wish we would get a nice gentle rain to lay the dust and purify the air. Reckon the county fair has come & gone again with all its dirt and noise. School has started and fall will come on fast. I surely notice how much shorter the days are getting because much of my work is done in the evening. Time has passed very quickly for me, it will soon be a year when I was home last. Tomorrow we get paid which always highlights the month. we have always been paid right on the dot since we have been across which rather surprised me for I thought maybe sometimes we'd have to wait. There is little to spend money for which makes it easy to save, I have a reserve however to get anything I see which I might want. Must dig out some holey sox & shorts tonight and salvage them tomorrow also have a pair of shoes to go in for repair, they keep us well shod and so far havent had any trouble getting sox etc. Ralph Pixler was here to see me again spent night before last and part of two days with me and we had a good visit. His pass situation is a little better than mine and he can get away easier. He thinks Arthur [Sensor?] may be over in this vicinity soon dont know where he got the information but tell me if he does and his folks hear about it. Gosh Mom dont think about anything for me for Christmas. I'll ask for anything I can use from time to time and that will be it. The best present I could have would
