Saving...
be for this war to over by then and that's what I'll wish for. I'm sure sorry to hear Dads hay fever is bad again this fall, we have some fellows in this outfit sneezing around with it too. Must be starting his second cycle of it, maybe in another sixty five years it will improve again. Bob hasnt been bothered with it so far or hadnt when I saw him. Havent heard from him since I saw him last and am wondering if he's moved. Was anything cut out of my letter that I wrote you telling about our visit? Dont know why Earl [Antes?] would try so hard to get in the army for he always seemed quite intelligent to me. Havent seen any apples over here but there are lots of pears and the grapes are getting ripe. None of the fruit is nice here, very small and imperfect but it tastes good for a change. We buy it from proceeds from our service club as well as ice cream once a week which goes mighty well even if it is powdered milk and kind of grainy. Say old Pete Peterson really gets to travel around with his job of escorting Franklin D. isnt it funny how people & jobs get together. A small town boy from Iowa wouldnt guess of one day having a job like that would he, at least I wouldnt but I didnt rate the right ticket anyhow. I can see Lee Granger displaying his [corn?] and the line going with it but am glad to hear corn is making in season. Seemed funny to hear you speak of a tank of gas lasting you till the twenty first of September, more than a month, seems you could get more gas as much business as the car has to do. Yes I still want to get Pligg something for a wedding present. Love Johnny
