Saving...
September 3, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Just washed up and am waiting for the chow truck to take us up to eat so I'll write a few lines. It has started to sprinkle which is indeed welcome for its been another very hot day sure hope it rains hard and settles the dust. Havent had any mail for a few days but maybe tonight. I think I get all your letters but not anywhere near in order written. I'm afraid the packages are lost for I havent received but a couple of small ones. It's been an easy day for me, just a few odds and ends of work and I helped haul a load of oxygen bottles. wish I had to do more of that maybe I'd lose some fat and keep in better shape. Think it would do me under to unload a carload of cement but I'd like to try. I've been to chow and mail call. got a V-mail from you, a grand long one with the snapshots in it, the papers and the jack knife and licorice so my morale is really high tonight. The pictures were fine, especially good of Dad but I know my Mom is better looking than the camera gave her credit for, the sun must have been very bright. Gosh Mom you and Pop dont cover near as much of that lawn seat as in days gone by you're really getting a girlish figger. The pictures were nice of the [Plunde's?] too be sure and thank them for me. Walda is really a nice looking gal. That jackknife just suits me, it's the kind I'd have picked out had I been buying it, will probably proceed to cut my fingers with it, like a ten year old. Thanks for everything its really been a good day for me. Our rain didnt amount to much but did settle the dust and freshen the atmosphere and its several degrees
