Saving...
Sept. 5, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: This morning made me think of squirrel hunting for it was really cool. No frost of course but a jacket felt good and two blankets were not too much. Guess they have a cool snap the world over about this time of year the growing season seems to be past here anyhow but they are still picking grapes I guess tho I havent been off the base to see. So Chuck Antes has another boy. Yes I think they gave him a good name at least it's easy to spell and there are lots of them. Noticed in the paper Dorothys mother had gone out to see them. I'll bet the automobile show building was a deserted place this fair, not having made any for a couple of years. I wonder if there will be drastic changes in them when production is started again. Guess Ill have to buy a jeep. I noticed a few days ago that they would be sold out at cost after the war. Most of them will be wrecks however for a G.I. driver is a wild man in most cases. Wrote three letters yesterday one to Thelma V. and two others to fellows in my old outfit, one in England and the other at Muroc. How we are scattered around all over the world. My old friend Tom Goodwin whom you may remember me speaking of is here in Italy somewhere we went thru Sheppard Field together. They have bingo games at our service club sometimes but they dont go over so hot. If the boys play anything its usually for higher stakes. Still havent learned I'm too unlucky. Id rather have a few dollars for sure than a whole lot maybe. So I'll never be a rich man as far as dollars and cents are concerned but that doesnt mean everything.
