Sept. 12, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom, and Grandmother: Have my work caught up this morning so can take enough time off to write a bit. Had a nice letter from Unc Raymond yesterday but none from home, the mail is coming there regularly now however. [Lots?] of the fellows are just getting packages mailed in June so perhaps I'll get mine yet. Got my laundry back yesterday, thank gosh for I was down to my last clean underwear. I have lots of clothes but I had sent a two weeks accumulation and it took two weeks to get it back so i was almost a month without having any laundry back. Of course I could have washed some like I used to but the facilities aren't so hot. Think i'll give some more blood tomorrow we are going to be tested and checked and I reckon in a week or so they'll take it. They pay the fellows in the army for it too you know. I didn't know that until after I had given before and then I got ten bucks, a pleasant surprise. I have the type blood which can be given to most people, I guess it the most common one. We were issued a sheepskin [mechanics?] jacket yesterday won't be long before it will feel good morning and evening, as usual mine isn't quite big enough but perhaps it will stretch some. [They?] are too cumbersome to work in anyhow, wish we'd be home before we needed them but I dont think thats possible. Uncle Raymond aid Milan is to get his "Wings" October sixteenth, thought maybe Aunt Ethel could go out and then come back home with him on his furlough. That fast train runs out to Denver in such a short time I should think
