Saving...
Sept. 14, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Another busy spell so I've missed writing have had the package of clippings with the Stumpps ant dope in it, I can surely try it out over here. Yesterday I got a Union and today the package of candy, gum & writing paper which has been so long coming, thanks a lot for it all. Tell me what Dede Johnson sent so I can thank her. Had another visitor today, and a distinguished one by army rank, Rich Stalle looked me up. We had a nice visit and I was glad to see him. he is a Lt. Colonel now and has a responsible job which I'll bet he handles well. His location is very near Ralph Pixler and he said he would try and see him. Rich makes a fine looking officer and we old buggers reminisced over some old times and how young the kids seemed who were leaving our home town for the army. It's been cooler here the past couple of days for which I was thankful. Makes a guy think that fall is approaching however and must make plans for the winter. This is dreadfully short I know but want to get some sleep, will try & write tomorrow. Love Johnny
