Saving...
Sept 20, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom & Grandmother: Last night I had the chance to see "Barretta of Wimpale Street" with the broadway case. I enjoyed it very much certainly never expected to see Katherine Cornell in person especially in Italy. It was put on in a very nice theatre and the costumes and stage settings were grand expect they are all carried with the troop but don't see how they could transport so much. It meant a long truck ride but it was surely worth it. I looked around in the audience for Ralph Pixler or someone I might know but the crowd was so large I didn't see anybody. Got a note from Bob today which he wrote August twelth with some negatives which we took at Pompei and Naples, when I get them made up I'll send some home. I think part of them are pretty good altho he cut my friend Bill's head off in a couple of snaps. He is so tall guess Bob didn't allow for that. Hope he is still in the states and gets an assignment there. Also had a V-mail from you today written the seventh the first I've had for several days. Just finished up a job and cleaned up for the night. One of my crew is going to Rome tomorrow on a three day pass, hope I can go too before we leave but wont be disappointed if I don't. All the fellows who have been liked the city very much as it is clean and modern with the ruins which we've all seen pictures of etc. It's late so I'm going to turn in - Love Johnny
