Saving...
Sept. 24, 1944 Italy Dear Dad, Mom, + Grandmother: I've just showered + cleaned up so will write while my hands are clean, which is seldom I'm afraid. Sure have been busy the past few days, that's the way it goes it seems, there are times when it's work eat + sleep and no time for anything else. We haven't been getting any mail for the past couple of weeks but I know I will soon. Did have a V-mail yesterday in which you mentioned me forgetting to post in a little booklet I spoke of in a letter. I post in it all right but I reckon it wasn't approved by the censor. Do hope the snapshots I sent came through okay. What do you hear from Bob? Wonder if he will get a furlough and get home again. He should be getting mileage for his travels and he'd soon make a fortune. Got some negatives of pictures we took while together which I'll have developed and send home. We have new living quarters about ready to move into. Had to build them ourselves or rather hired Italian labor and used rock for walls, there are six of us in our own house and a guard barrack. We are going to put in a tile floor which should be easy to keep clean. The weather has felt quite fallish the past couple of weeks so will be good to have it finished. Got some salvage back today or rather a shirt, sent coveralls, shoes + some sock but they didn't get back as yet, I have plenty however so it doesn't matter. The shirt doesn't fit either, too small but I can trade it later. I have lots of clothes, very much a sameness in design and color but I hope I can
