To prevent the smoking of a lamp soak the wick in strong vinegar and dry it well before you use it it will then burn both sweet and pleasant and give much satisfaction for the trifling trouble in preparing it To polish shells Wash them in a little water in which a small portion of gum arabic has been dissolved or with the white of an egg When the skin is thick mingle with the water a little fraction of nitric acid which destroys the adhesion the new surface must be polished with leather assisted by tripoli [Lanolan Jousnat?] Mr Steeles pills Take of powder [illegible] 2 scruples [illegible] Powder 15 grams bastile soap 2 scruples lymp of orange peel sufficient to make the whole into a mass to be divided into twenty four pills
