Cassells Family Magazine - Dec 1881 Test for Water A simple method of ascertaining if water is free from organic pollution, is to cork up a small bottle nearly full of it, after letting in a piece of loaf sugar. If on letting stand in the light two or three days no mold (?) (-) becomes visible, and the water retains its clearness it may be considered free from sewage phosphates.
