Saving...
December 2, 1944 Italy Dear Dad and Mom: This is a beautiful day; sun shinning and quite warm, almost an Indian summer type but a little cooler. Perhaps it just seems extra good by contrary. I've done a lot of odd jobs this morning and cleaned up.Have just finished dinner, toasted cheese sandwiches again, boy they taste good. Got the bread from the mess hall and Bill and I were the chefs. Got the package from Mrs. Hay last night, had a three pound fruit cake and some candy bars in it. I'll write them soon but if you see her first tell her thanks and be sure and get the kids something for me. The farmers are still busy planning guess they plan from one season to another their methods are so slow I guess it would take that long. Saw an ox and a mule being worked together the other day. In many fields men and women turn the soil over with a kind of mattock affair, certainly is doing the job the hard way. The soil seems very light and easily worked however which is kind of.
