December 12, 1944 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Just started to write this when the stove went out and I had to stop and fill it up. Didn't have to go far for the fuel for I just carried some to the shack last night. We've certainly had good luck with our stove so far, hope it continues. One of the boys manufactured a toaster this morning heretofor we've just used a fork and it just about scorched a hand as well as the bread. Haven't tried it yet but it should work very well. Did something last night I haven't done in a long time, put a jig saw puzzle together. Somebody got it in a Christmas box and didn't care for it. Never thought I did either but it passed an evening. Have you heard from Aunt Cora about Russell yet? Surely hope so and I feel there is a pretty good chance for him judging from what I've seen. I've been reading a comic book of Blondie cartoons, there were certainly some funny ones. the guy that draws that
