January 13, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mon: Just finished a bath & shampoo so feel like a million dollars tho I'd settle for less. Thought for awhile I'd have to write this by candle light but our lights came on a few minutes ago. Reckon the magneto on the little power plant must be balking. In tonights mail I got a V-mail from you, December twenty ninth, a letter from an old army friend who is now in England and three belated Christmas cards one gave me quite a twinge of sadness for it was from the Rhude's and Mrs. had written a nice note on it, only day before yesterday I heard of her death the others were from Breckners & Agnes & Chuck Hoover. So Harold Wendland working for Tony now as for the Conoco station. From what we've been hearing about blizzards and cold spells I think you're wise to leave the car in the garage for cold weather driving is no pleasure. My cold is better now I think got some more drops at the dispensary yesterday and they really seemed to help my stopped up head. Don't know what they are for they seem
