February 8, 1941 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: This has been a grand day, almost like spring, worked all day without a jacket and was comfortable. The days are certainly getting longer, I was surprised when the chow truck came around tonight it was so light I couldn't realize it was that time. Just got the mail had two v-mails one from you and the other from Plegg and Arlene. They were both mailed the twenty fifth so made pretty good time. Wrote a note to Spud Balland night before last, found out where he is, now if I can catch a ride someday I'll go see him. Perhaps he will find it easier to get over here tho, he no doubt has more pull than I have and can maybe rate some transportation. Heard from Bob last night, he told of Vivian's visit and reported having a good time seeing New York and all it offers. He seems to be real happy about his job and location, hope he can stay put for awhile. Have you noticed when I write on this paper the lines are straighter than usual? It's got a cheater in the tablet one of those heavy ruled pages that shows them, really helps out and
