Saving...
February 23, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: A short letter tonight but here's hoping it gets there quick. Had a nice letter from Uncle Raymond last night and a Union from home. Haven't had mail call yet tonight so I don't know what I might have. Got a new pair of coveralls today for some I salvaged a couple of months ago, I'm glad too for I have another pair which are getting quite ragged. I've had them over a year so they did pretty well. Have a sore ankle tonight, jumped off a truck onto a stone which rolled. Reckon it will be stiff in the morning but it isn't sprained or anything serious. There was a beautiful sunset tonight the most vivid red looked almost as if the sky was on fire. If old signs mean anything we should have a fair day tomorrow. You folks should be seeing the end of your winter soon, tho there is lots of unpleasant weather between now and the fourth of July. Bill got a whole bunch of funny papers last night so our whole tent has been reading up on the adventures of Dick Tracy, Skeesix & the bunch. Certainly broadens ones mind. Unc Raymond said perhaps Milan would finish up his training in Sioux City, certainly hope he does for he can get home from there. He said Ralph planned to go to Texas soon. Just got two air mails one Jan 29 and the other Rob (illegible) with the clippings and my statement which I'll look over now. Love Johnny
