7 very different. When the big earthquake wiped out Simla, and later we had reports of floods in China, a man I know said "Pity it didn't happen in central Europe. Those damned people are always hatching trouble, and getting us dragged into it". Well, there are some who remember the last war, short food, epidemics, raids at home, and unspeakable horrors at the front. There are men still living hidden lives in our hospitals, men who have to be kept secluded lest their wretched bodies, and faces blasted out of all resemblance to humanity, should upset our feelings. And yet, if another war were upon us, I suppose we should have the same cursed women going around presenting white feathers to men not in uniform and flattering themselves on their patriotism.
