53rd General Hospital APO 137 March 13, 1944 Dear Helen, So you're with a general hospital! How I wonder how long you were in DC before clearing, how you like your unit, where you are by now etc. Wonder of course whether you might be coming this way! Do write when you can - A lot of water has gone under the bridge since I wrote last and I'm genuinely ashamed. After our stay in London - quite a lucky break for ARC girls compared to the nurses - we rejoined the unit which was still in a staging area on this side. Helen it was awful. Good experience of course - mud, damp dark huts - oh well you'll probably hear all about it from dozens of people. After a spell of that they put the girls in a hosp ward (billeted us - not on detached service) in Manchester - the world looked much cleaner from there. We got thawed out, got our clothes cleaned etc saw a few shows - I even got to Liverpool to see the wharves etc. Then we were moved here to our so-called permanent location - Malvern Worcesterwhire.
