dry and humid. One of our A.R.C> canteens is called The Dust Bowl. We have a canteen on all army air strips and see some but not all navy ones. However the navy is beginning to recognize ARC and we are putting in more and more navy installations as time goes by. Naturally navy duty is preferred as they live and eat so much better. Had leave in Australia. It was wonderful. Lettuce, milk, fresh food, and skirts. Saw Sydney - a very metropolitan and really beautiful city. Brisbane is like an overgrown country town. The most remarkable thing in Australia is that despite the fact that the average income is about £5 per week, I did not see a single slum district any place and I covered a lot
