To cleanse Silk. Newspaper Pare and slice thin 3 washed Irish potatoes - pour on them a 1/2 pt boiling water and add an equal quantity of pure alcohol Spunge the silk on the right side & when half dry, iron on the wrong side. The lightest colored silk may be cleansed & brightened by this process, also cloth velvet or crape. -again- Maria Swain 1/2 pint alcohol - 2 teaspoons soft soap - 1 1/2 of molasses, and apply as above To cleanse Calicoes. Printed Make a later by boiling some soap & water together- let it stand until it is sufficiently cool for use. - throw in a handful of salt. - after washing, rinse without wringing it in clear cold water into which a little salt has been thrown.- rinse again in clean water adding a little salt. Then wring the dress in a cloth & hang it to dry immediately
