On board R.M.S. Baltic, August 19, 1916. My dear people: Here I am a good six hundred miles from the farthest bit of land in Europe and getting on westward every minute. The summer of novel adventures in the zone of the greatest war in history is over, and I am homeward bound. In two weeks more, I suppose, I shall be back at my desk working like a good un on the beginning of another year's grind. The prospect neither saddens nor delights.
