13/ occupied. After getting on the channel steamer at Southhampton, he had learned that the port was closed. Submarines had been working in the channel and the admiralty had closed the port until the danger could be overcome. So Almer was stuck there on a steamer crowded with people who had no idea how long they would have to wait. He stood two days of it and decided to come back to London, It was pleasant for me because he stayed on with me. And if it had not been for him I should probably have missed this boat. After getting my passage and making all arrangements Wednesday morning I dilly-dallied at packing up until I discovered that I had only thirty minutes to make the train for Liverpool -
