I had anticipated. I went before the gathering without preparation and without any notes, yet things came to me easily and I talked for an hour without a break. My audience gave me magnificent attention, so the talk must have been fairly interesting. I had dreaded the experience beforehand but it turned out to be pretty good fun. How beautiful autumn has come to us! Every morning as I start to work I look out over the valley of the Iowa across the red and orange and purple and gold of the groves to the yellow fields and green pastures beyond, revelling in the grandeur of the view. I wish I could get out to see more of it, but anyway it's good to be alive such days as these. Lovingly, Conger.
