Saving...
March 4, 1945 Italy Dear Dad and Mom: This is a good day to be inside, cold and blustery just like a nasty March day at home. Just refurnished our fuel supply and have no [illegible] work outside so will settle down in the tent and get off a few letters. Meant to write this last night but our lights failed and I had no candle. I'll bet the candle makers have done more business the past three years than in twenty before. Expect the army uses a lot of them. Got a big supply of [nukes?] this morning one of the fellows gave me sixteen bottles, an [illegible] of weeks. I give him my beer ration card, his a good dutchman and likes his beer so its a good trade for me. Your letter written the nineteenth came last night, you are getting to be quite a pair. Marian has nothing on you I'm sure. We had a generous P.X. ration yesterday with quite a few extras, [tomato?], Listerine, kleenex and stuff thats quite a rarity. There is always a long line to sweat out, which is every soldiers pet peeve. Got a hair cut while I was waiting, one thing accomplished anyhow. Our barbers aren't nearly so good as little Danny used to be [illegible] can whack off the excess growth so it doesnt hang over ones eyes and ears.
