Saving...
March 2, 1945 Italy Dear Dad and Mom: Was going to write on airmail tonight but found I was out of envelopes. The mailman will have some tomorrow tho and I'll try and write a longer one then. Have a pair of pants which I am going to salvage, washed them in gas and I cant seen to get the smell out of them. Maybe another days hanging on the line will do it. Wrote to Jimmy today l've been meaning to for weeks but never did, there is so little to write about it takes awhile to accumulate enough to write a decent letter. Got a V. mail from you tonight which was sent the fifteenth, you mentioned John [Granen?] calling for my address. He must have had the letter already written for I got it several days ago. We caught two mice in our tent this evening with shotguns help. he is hunting most of the time. We had hamburgers for chow tonight and they were pretty good, all in all we get fed pretty good altho enemy soldier kicks about the food. It's been a good day, warm but with a coolish wind, [illegible] it is as nice back home but I knew old man winter is sometimes slow about relinquishing his hold on [illegible]. Will close for tonight - Love Johnny
