March 14, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: I've worked late the last couple of nights so didnt find time to write. Not so busy this morning so I'll try & do a bit. Had three V-mail letters from you night before last the last three days in February and last night a nice long air mail one mailed the fifth so it really made good time. I'd forgotten it was Grandma's birthday wish I'd remembered to write her a letter at least. Had a letter from Uncle Ralph, he said she'd had fifty seven cards and there would probably be some more late ones. She is a remarkable lady for eighty nine years. Didn't remember either that both Grandmothers birthdays were so close together. It's certainly pleasant weather, almost warm enough to shed ones winter clothes but expect there will be lots of unpleasant days yet before summer comes. Would sure like to be home to see spring come on, noplace is prettier than northeast Iowa in the spring or any other time of year for that matter. Since I got that wart burned off my foot I've been limping around in my house shoes its getting along okay but its right where a shoe
