March 20, 1945 Italy Dear Dad & Mom: Just had a bath, shave and shampoo and will write a few lines before I turn in. Hope the lights dont go out before I finish, they shouldnt tho for I dont have much to say. It's been a good day not too warm but pleasant. Worked without a jacket and was plenty comfortable, spring time is beautiful, even in Italy. Golly tomorrow is the first day of spring and nearly a year for us over here. The countryside begins to look much the same as it did when we arrived here. Bill got back from rest camp last evening with a bad cold, but feels better today. I think I'm glad I decided on Rome for he said it was quite dull where he was. The food was much better but entertainment wasnt much. Had a V-mail from you last night written the seventh and one from Arlene & Plegg. Wasn't much mail come in tonight and I wasnt a lucky one. Perhaps I will see Pixler again soon he and Allen Ballard are at the same place or a few miles apart. Some of the boys have plans for a contraption using part of a German jeep, motor
